One Week, Two Continents of Deals: METALEX Bangkok (18–21 Nov) and bauma CHINA (23–27 Nov) Make November 2026 the Buyer's Month
The short answer first. If you buy, sell or import machinery in ASEAN, block 18–27 November 2026. METALEX 2026 runs 18–21 November at BITEC, Bangkok — its 40th edition, themed around AI and smart metalworking, filling halls 98–104 with 55,000 sqm, more than 3,000 brands from 50 countries and international pavilions from China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland and Taiwan; organizers expect over 100,000 industrial visitors. Admission is free with advance registration via the organizer's site. Six days later, bauma CHINA 2026 opens in Shanghai — for the first time as 'One Show, Two Venues': SWEECC on 23–26 November and SNIEC on 24–27 November, together roughly 400,000 sqm with around 4,000 exhibitors including SANY, XCMG, ZOOMLION, LiuGong, Liebherr, Caterpillar and Komatsu. One badge covers both Shanghai venues, with free shuttle buses between them.
Why a used-machinery platform cares about new-machine fairs. Two effects repeat every cycle. First, the sourcing effect: manufacturers and dealers use these shows to clear demonstrator units, showroom machines and end-of-line stock, and much of that equipment flows into the secondary market at weeks-old hours within months — the sharpest used deals of the year often surface in the 4–8 weeks after a major show. Second, the displacement effect: when a new generation launches on the show floor, asking prices for the superseded generation soften within one to two quarters. With electrified and autonomous machines prominently featured at bauma CHINA 2026, Tier-3-emission diesel units across Southeast Asia face a second round of price pressure independent of the Stage IV supply dynamics we covered earlier.
Practical itinerary advice. The two shows line up almost back to back: 21 November (METALEX closing day) to 23 November (bauma CHINA opening) leaves a two-day transfer window — direct Bangkok–Shanghai flights run around four and a half hours. If you can only attend one, choose by product line: METALEX is the region's machine-tool and metalworking hub (CNC, machining centers, presses, welding, metrology) and doubles as an ASEAN buyer gathering; bauma CHINA is the heavy-equipment bible (excavators, loaders, cranes, mining, components, hydraulics). If you can attend both, do Bangkok first — METALEX closes Saturday afternoon, and bauma's overlap days (24–26 November, when both Shanghai venues are open) are when the real cross-venue meetings happen. Pre-register both shows online; METALEX is free, and bauma CHINA charges a small on-site fee for walk-ins but admits pre-registered visitors free. Book Shanghai hotels early — dual-venue format plus 400,000 sqm means the city fills fast.
